International Day of Charity 2020

Countless charities and charitable foundations all over the world work tirelessly, going above-and-beyond to make sure their values, efforts and positivity in their cause is always a worthwhile endeavour. Not just for them, but for the people, communities, and countries they serve. This is why it makes all the sense in the world to have a day in which their efforts are recognised and celebrated… International Day of Charity is such a day.

Organised and created by the United Nations in 2012, each year the 5th of September stands as the ideal time to raise awareness for charities, their work, and, perhaps most importantly, to give thanks for all that they do.

And while that specific date was selected in memoriam to the iconic Mother Teresa, who passed away on September 5th but whose countless charitable movements in her lifetime have become common knowledge the world over, the date is free and open to anybody wanting to celebrate charitable work with any goal, of any kind. Making it a truly universal day of giving, appreciation, and thankfulness.

As a charitable foundation, The Running Bee Foundation is well aware of all the incredible work done by charities for numerous causes all over the world. For us personally, our goal is to eliminate childhood obesity within our communities by donating race profits to health-conscious causes, and helping people #BeeActiveBeeHealthyBeeHappy. Which is one of the reasons we’ve been adamant to continue to offer access to virtual running events throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, even if they’re not in-person events.

But what about when it comes to getting involved with International Day of Charity? Well, if you already are a patron or supporter of a specific charity, you’ll no-doubt have a bunch of ideas in mind about the things you can do to raise awareness, and maybe even raise a few donations. You could:

  • Have a collection in your place of work
  • Run a coffee/tea/cake/breakfast morning to help raise some small funds for your chosen charity.
  • Make a simple donation and encourage others to do the same to show your support.

Or, if like us you’re obsessed with all-things Running, why not organise a run for yourself and others, or have people donate directly to you for the next time you head out on a 10K or a similarly difficult running task?

But if you share the same values as us here at The Running Bee Foundation, or you’re a regular attendee of Running Bee events, we’d be thrilled and honoured if you could make us a part of your fundraising efforts this International Day of Charity.

Running and raising funds for The Running Bee Foundation couldn’t be easier. You can let your friends, family and co-workers know you’re doing a sponsored run, or even arrange your very own fun run with like-minded people who want to take part to help a worthy cause!

Or if you want to do your part for International Day of Charity and support the running bee without a run (we understand!) there’s always the option of making a donation to the Foundation. Remember, your money will be put to good use, helping to tackle childhood obesity in the areas we serve.

So whatever you end up doing the International Day of Charity, or even if you aren’t doing anything in particular, please take a moment to think about those charities and foundations that help make our world a better place to live.

And remember…

#BeeActiveBeeHealthyBeeHappy!
