Getting Back Up & Running in 2020!

Happy New Year! Have you ‘Bee-n good with your exercise routine and diet over the Christmas period? Don’t worry… we won’t tell! If you have let things slip a little, fear not! See it as a chance to bounce back and prepare yourself for all of our amazing 2020 running events!

But getting back to a regular running routine can be a difficult task, especially if you’re carrying around some extra Christmas weight. It happens to us all!

Or maybe it’s more of a motivational issue? It’s no secret that while many people feel invigorated by the New Year, others aren’t so enthusiastic and fall into a bit of a slump.

Whatever the reasons, if you’re struggling to get back up and running this year, we’re here to help. We need you at full gear, our 2020 running events won’t run themselves!

With this in mind, here are some of our top tips to get you back up & running in 2020:

Rest & recovery

Just because you’ve gotten through a pretty extended resting period over Christmas doesn’t mean you can simply ignore the recovery process upon your return.

Recovery is essential in not only maintaining your performance but improving it overtime, too.

Remember: The human body is like a well-oiled machine. With the right care and attention to detail, it will work wonders for you. But if you ignore all the warning indicators and choose to plough forward at full throttle, you could be in for some serious damage along the line.

Solution? However difficult it may be for you once you’re back in the swing of things, take the necessary time to heal up and rest your body. You’d be surprised just how quickly the body can fix some niggling problems with some simple treatments & techniques.

But if you find yourself dealing with a repetitive problem, be sure to consult a medical professional before it becomes even more aggravated.

Sign up for 2020 running events

If you were disappointed with just how many running events you participated in (or didn’t participate in) in 2019, 2020 is the year to set the record straight and to get yourself back on track!

(Pun intended…)

Worried you won’t have the same drive you used to have to get out and go training? Sign up for some 2020 running events now and give yourself a target date to get yourself back in shape and your running legs back up to scratch!

The Running Bee Foundation hosts some incredible running events throughout the year, including the recently announced Knowsley 10K at the hugely popular Knowsley Safari Park. These events are the perfect opportunity to test yourself, beat your personal best and get some much needed exercise in the process.

They’re also great fun for the whole family, and several events even include smaller running events for children, so your little ones can get in on the running action as well!

Get friends & family involved

Many of us struggle taking on a new challenge with the strength of our own will alone.

But if we have others around us cheering us on, like friends and family, we can find the drive we need to get the job done.

This is especially true for physical exercise, like running training and running events.

If you find yourself lapsing in your new running regimen, be sure that your friends and/or family are keeping track of your progress and can give you a much needed boost if you begin to lose your way.

Who knows? They might even catch the running bug and join you in training! Then, you’ll be able to keep track of each other’s progress.

Schedule your runs

If you’re the type of person that likes to get up and go for a run with no previous planning involved, and you manage to fit in a good level of running with this method, more power to you!

But many of us have a problem with maintaining a decent level of training if we have no fixed schedule.

This isn’t anybody’s fault specifically, it’s more of a highlight of just how easy it is to forget something if it isn’t written down!

If this is sounding all too familiar, consider keeping a running planner or diary for 2020 to be sure you never miss a run and never let a run clash with any other events or plans you have going on.

Diet

We all tend to over-indulge over Christmas time… what would Christmas be without tons of delicious treats?!

But, as you’ll be aware, too many of these treats can lead to a few more pounds than we’re used to creeping onto the scale come January.

This isn’t just a hit on our own confidence, it can also have a significant impact on our running performance.

So, if you’re planning on partaking in any 2020 running events, it might be a good idea to keep an eye on the calories in the New Year.

If it’s just a small amount of weight you’re looking to shed, you’ll likely not need to make any drastic changes, though. Just cut out the sweets and a few of the carb-heavy snacks you’re used to.

And, of course, get yourself back to training to burn that unwanted weight off. You’ll be race-ready in no time!

If you haven’t figured it out already, The Running Bee Foundation is gearing-up for one heck of a 2020! So ‘Bee’ sure to check out all our incredible upcoming 2020 running events here.
